Ranger Rick’s Tree House

Client: National Wildlife Federation

With a history of over 50 years, the National Wildlife Federation’s legendary Ranger Rick magazine thrust its pages into the 21st century with FableVision’s help. The Studio was asked to preserve the heritage and quality of the beloved and critically acclaimed magazine, while taking advantage of the interactive, exploratory, and highly visual nature of the digital medium. Ranger Rick's Tree House was the first app of its kind – dubbed an appzine, an app-based magazine.

The subscription-based app was available in the Apple Newsstand, and released four seasonal issues a year. Each new issue is updated with two new games, seasonal features, and design elements. While the National Wildlife Federation has decided to move back to a print-only magazine, Ranger Rick’s Tree House appzine garnered multiple awards during its time in the App Store.
