“Animated Atmosphere” Videos

Client: University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR)

Rain or shine, it’s always a good time to learn about weather phenomena! To reach their audiences beyond their physical museum spaces, the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) turned to FableVision for a set of 17 short animated videos explaining extreme weather conditions.

Through an ensemble of weathermen yeti, dog, and palm tree—each with their own fun connections to the weather phenomena they feature in—these humorous and educational videos deliver information that ranges from fun facts to useful know-how to stay safe during extreme weather. FableVision worked continuously with subject matter experts from UCAR to ensure accurate, science-packed content that shares insight on topics such as natural events and climate change while highlighting their urgency without making them seem frightening. The material is presented simply enough for children to understand, while comprehensive and engaging enough that adults will also enjoy learning more.

The animated videos and FableVision-created minigames are hosted on UCAR’S SkySci for Kids, a website with playful avenues for children to learn about weather, climate, and related science topics.
