FableVision and Extra Life

Meatball. That’s the name given to a stuffed Koala bear that soldiered through my husband’s surgery with him nearly 23 years ago. A radiologist at Boston Children’s Hospital gave it to him during his stay and at some point, Mike says, he dropped a meatball on the bear – thus the name.

FableVision Founder Plants $5K Vision for Greenway

Rose had a vision. Traveling the world in a fantastical teapot, Rose finds a neglected plot of land in a bustling city to transform into a garden. From the imagination of FableVision co-founder and New York Times best selling author Peter H. Reynolds, Rose’s Garden was dedicated to Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy. Reynolds donated $5,000 of the book's royalties to the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Conservancy.

"Classic in the Jurassic, Jr." App Featured in App Store!

Check out our new Dinosaur Train app "Classic in the Jurassic, Jr." featured this week in the App Store! The app welcomes kids to an adventure with Gilbert the conductor, helping him get Troodon Town ready for a big event! The app includes three math games and a sticker book with one more game update on its way.  We were so proud to see Classic in the Jurrassic, Jr. claim #1 in popularity in iPad/Education, #5 in iPad/Overall, and #1 grossing in iPad/Education.

In addition to the app, there are seven online games that make up the Classic in the Jurassic suite featuring the stars of Dinosaur Train show (hilariously) competing in athletic events--including diving,  gliding and football.  Through these games, we introduce preschoolers to math concepts like weight, distance and volume. The app and games transmedia suite were funded through a grant from the Ready to Learn Initiative. Buy and download the app here.

Bridge Builder: Help the dinosaurs get around Troodon Town! Measure the distance by dragging your finger across, and choose the right length of logs to finish the bridge.

Chow Time: The dinos are ready for snack time! Add or take away food from the scale and when it’s balanced watch them eat their fill!

All-Star Sorting: Get the dinosaurs in order from shortest to tallest! Once they’re lined up correctly, drag them to their appropriate homes.

Explore the Mysterious World of the Maya

What do you know about the Mayans? You've probably heard some rumors about their calendar (hint: it ends on December 21, 2012), but did you know that it's only the end of the Great Cycle, which is the equivalent of almost 5,125 years?! We're guessing you didn't (we didn't either a few months ago).  That's why we are so proud to announce the launch of Mayan Mysteries, our new educational archaeology adventure game for web and iPad, built hand in hand with our partner, Dig It Games.

Mayan Mysteries uses a visually stimulating approach to teach students about ancient Maya civilization and culture through the eyes of archaeologists. Our art team worked diligently to craft historically accurate representations of Mayan culture. Everything from cacao pots to temples have been poured over to give players as accurate a view of Mayan civilization as possible.  We were so lucky to have Suzi Wilczynski, professional archaeologist and teacher as our content expert on the game.

Players join Professor Q and his twin niece and nephew on a journey through Central America, hot on the trail of Ladrone, an infamous and elusive looter in search of the mythical city of Ich'aak. The story is told of their mysterious travels through graphic novel panels, which then draw players into puzzles and mini games about the Mayans that also help uncover the clues to both the identity of Ladrone and the location of Ich'aak.

We are so excited that this unique and robust game will soon be making its way into classrooms nationwide.  And we hope everyone will play way after December 20th, right? Stay tuned for more levels to come  and for a special behind-the-scenes look at the making of Mayan Mysteries right her on the FableVision Studios blog...

FableVision and The Learning Games Network Present: Quandary

When you think about the problems humans will face in colonizing space, what do you imagine they'll be? It wouldn't be totally wrong if you said hostile extraterrestrials or back holes. But what if I told you one of our biggest problems would be the ethical dilemmas concerning the best way to keep sheep from being eaten by the native predators? Do you: poison the predators, capture them, or fence in your sheep at night? Well in our latest project, Quandary, you'll have to consider problems just like that! Quandary is a unique gaming experience that puts players in charge of the colony of Braxos, where human settlers have settled down and are trying to create a thriving civilization. We are proud to say that Quandary is an unprecedented gaming experience: players won't do any resource management, they won't fight in battles and they won't conquer alien worlds. Instead, players will have to consider urgent moral and ethical dilemmas that are integral to the livelihood of their colony. Each decision will have serious consequences for the settlers of Braxos. We are very excited about this game and its potential to help students learn about making smart ethical decisions in their own lives. It was wonderful to collaborate with our longtime partners at Learning Games Network--there's nothing better than making games with fun, smart people.
